Obama For President Hours per week: 60 East Pasco for Obama - Group Administrator

DADE CITY, FLORIDA

I established and managed a team of over 300 volunteers at a grassroots political office. As a former public relations executive and newspaper writer, my communications and negotiating skills enabled me to open our corner storefront. We attracted support from volunteers, visitors, information seekers, local political candidates, Florida Democratic Party officials, neighborhood merchants, and shoppers for campaign memorabilia. Coordination with Obama Ybor City State headquarters enabled our volunteers to make important contributions to data entry, canvassing, phone banking, successful community events, and voter outreach efforts, from registration to assistance at the polls. Experience in education helped me focus on research, discussions, reflection on practices and conducting nonpartisan election workshops at two local high schools. My theatre experience enhanced the creativity and collaboration of our team. We staged community concerts, a Fourth of July Block Party, and participated in parades and seasonal local festivals.

2005 — 2008 Saint Leo University Adjunct Professor and Supervisor of Interns

As Supervisor of Teaching Interns in the Department of Education at Saint Leo University I conducted seminars and taught the Florida State 12 Accomplished Practices to third year student interns. Assigned to local elementary schools, my 20 (per semester) interns were prepared to assist cooperating classroom teachers. On a weekly basis, I evaluated their performances and provided guidance and support.
My most fulfilling work was teaching EDU 222--Multiculturalism in the Classroom. Experiencing theatrical techniques, designed to level the playing field, students were excited by alternative approaches to pedagogy.
My teacher evaluations from students were unanimously positive and I was elected to the University Senate. My research and preparation skills grew tremendously.

Writing positions followed full time at the Greensboro Daily News and then, as a stringer for the St. Petersburg Times. Additional work as an account executive for Public Communications Inc and Bohne Grafx enabled me to advocate for travel, hotel/resorts, and medical clients.
